Things to do

The village of Chirnside is set on a hill overlooking the Whitadder River and the Tweed Valley, and offers stunning views across the Merse to the Cheviot Hills. Golden sandy beaches are to be found at Coldingham Bay, Spittal, and Bamburgh, all within an easy drive from Chirnside. Venture across the causeway to romantic Holy Island, and experience the breathtaking Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve, a bird-watchers paradise.

Alnwick Castle is a must-see for all Harry Potter fans! The Castle featured as 'Hogwarts' in the first two Harry Potter movies. Why not re-live the flying lesson on broomsticks in The Philosopher's Stone, and crash land the flying car in The Chamber of Secrets? The Northumberland National Park, an Area of Outstanding National Beauty, is easily accessible from Chirnside, and  historic  Edinburgh is the ideal day out by train or car. Berwick upon Tweed is just 8 miles away, a must-see for its Elizabethan walls and historical legacy derived from the often tempestuous relationship between England and Scotland.

Every Spring the Jim Clark Rally, the only 'closed roads' race on mainland Britain, takes place in the area as a tribute to the world champion who hailed from the village.
